Physical Education

The intent of our PE curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the development of every child’s ability and achievement in the area of PE enabling them to know more about physical activity and keeping healthy, remember more about the physical activity they participate in and learn about and understand how to use and apply this knowledge to impact upon their own physical activity, participation and healthy lifestyle.

Each class has regular periods of PE, i.e. Games, Dance/Movement and Gymnastics to give them progressive development of the necessary skills which will provide the basis for developing good co-ordination, control, good health habits, a healthy competitive spirit and a willingness to partake in team games/activities.  PE is taught by specialist PE coaches together with school staff who teach the subject in accordance with the National Curriculum.

Children participate in a range of small games, progressing to some experience of Football, Netball, Cricket and Rounders and other team games.  In KS2 children also take part in Athletics in the Summer Term.  In addition, Year 3 and Year 6 have the opportunity to take part in swimming lessons at Vale Farm in the Summer term.  Year 6 and Year 3, through a visit to the Gordon Brown centre in the Autumn Term, also have experience of Orienteering. At St Margaret's school, we understand the importance of staying healthy and the positive effect exercise has in the well-being and health of our children.

Children also benefit from football and multisports' coaching during lunchtime as well as several after school football, multisports, Kung Fu, Athletics, Dance and Gymnastics clubs.

At St Margaret Clitherow Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports' professionals, entering into more competitive sport's competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.
