Oscar Romero Award
Our school is proud to be recognised at Participator Level in the Oscar Romero Award.
This reflects our strong and growing commitment to placing Catholic Social Teaching
at the heart of our school life. Inspired by the witness of Saint Oscar Romero,
we strive to follow his example of standing up for justice, dignity and the common good.
Being a Participator school means that we are actively developing our understanding
of Catholic Social Teaching and beginning to put it into action in meaningful ways.
Through our curriculum, prayer life and wider opportunities, pupils are learning
about key principles such as human dignity, solidarity and care for creation, and are
encouraged to respond through acts of service, charity and compassion.
This stage of the award recognises the enthusiasm and commitment of our whole
school community as we continue on our journey. It reflects our dedication to nurturing
pupils who are growing in awareness of the needs of others and are beginning to see
how they can make a positive difference in the world, rooted in faith and guided
by Gospel values.

THE CAFOD “LiveSimply” AWARD
This year, our school is working towards the CAFOD LiveSimply Award, a national award for Catholic schools that demonstrate they are living simply, sustainably and in solidarity with people in need.
The award is based around three themes:
· Live Simply – finding joy in simple living and avoiding waste.
· Live Sustainably with Creation – caring for our world through eco-friendly choices.
· Live in Solidarity with the Poor – taking action to support those most in need locally and globally.
What We Will Be Doing This Year
To achieve the award, we will take on a series of practical projects across the school community. These will include:
· Environmental actions such as recycling, reducing single-use plastics, saving energy, and planting to care for creation.
· Charitable actions such as fundraising for CAFOD and local charities, foodbank collections, and supporting parish outreach.
· Living simply together by encouraging children to make small lifestyle changes, share resources, and reflect on how faith calls us to care for others and our world.
Throughout the year, pupils will learn about Catholic Social Teaching and put their learning into action through class projects, whole-school events, and family challenges.
By the end of the year, we hope to achieve the CAFOD LiveSimply Award as a whole school community, showing that together we can live out our faith in meaningful and practical ways.
Live Simply Award
As part of our LiveSimply Award work during Lent, classes will join the CAFOD Big Lent Walk, a sponsored event to raise funds for communities experiencing poverty. Further details about sponsorship and arrangements will follow in a jotter message.
We will also be focusing on Fairtrade and how it supports farmers and producers through fair pay and conditions. Children will be asked to bring in one Fairtrade product by this Friday (27th February).
Eco Schools Award
We are delighted that our children have been accredited with the Eco-Schools Green Flag. Eco-Schools is a charity passionate about engaging young people in environmental education and action. Eco-Schools operates in 70 countries and engages 19.5 million young people globally. This makes Eco-Schools the largest educational programme on the planet.
The programme:
- inspires and empowers pupils
- raises environmental awareness
- improves the school environment
- creates financial savings
- involves the whole school and wider community in environmental projects – and most importantly it engages the youth of today to protect the planet of tomorrow.
